I paint in response to the natural world
around me. I am stirred to observe the intensity of colour caused by the quality of light, the changing seasons and the strong
spiritual affinity I sense when I visit certain places, which seem special to me.
My paintings of Cornwall were directly motivated by the value of the radiance of the clear air,
but underlying that, I found places and things with which I empathised.
Cornwall was a spiritual base from which my confidence
in my work originated.
Now that I am working in Scotland, I find the rich diversity of subject material
a great inspiration, but it is the natural world; the lochs, glens, beaches, rocks and watercourses exposed with a clear brightness
which stimulates my activities.
I like to work with speed, and to keep a
vividness and freshness to my images, and so I use acrylic paints and inks to achieve my effects.
All my pictures are suitable for framing
either glazed or unglazed.
